Christmas cards are a traditional way to celebrate the holiday. Grade 7 learners used simple shapes and colors to make these simple tiled and quilted looking cards. They started with the most basic shapes and turned them into different Christmas symbols... a triangle became a tree or a Santa's hat; a circle became a wreath, an ornament, a candle, or even an elf.
Chemistry meets Art... the Grade 7 learner's used their lab equipment to set up these creative still life drawings. The test tubes, flasks, and beakers were all brought into the art room as well as the chemistry books to observe the sizes and shapes and to be drawn accurately. They focused on creating bold images using lines, colors and shapes to give excitment and energy to the art. They used colored markers to achieve the strongest colors and colored pencils to make lighter tones and shadows. It was an interesting project and the results were fun and energetic.
Fresh fruits and vegetables were the theme for the grade 7 learners' art paintings. After experimenting to mix both light and dark hues and mixing neutral colors from complimentary colors, the learners put their discoveries to work. The challenge was to create a painting full of fruits and vegtables and to paint each piece with dark and light tones as well as adding casted shadows. They also had to mix their own neutral brown colors to paint the shopping bag. By using their knowledge of the color wheel and their desire to create, the artworks came into fruition!

Adding values to a still life is what gives the drawing a 3D look. In art, value refers to the reflected light on an object as well as the shadows of an object. Grade 7 learners drew the basic shapes such as cylinders, rectangluar prisms and cubes and applied these to the everyday materials in the art room. They began on a neutral grey paper for the mid tones and then added white chalk to achieve the highlights and dark granite pencil for the shadows. Finally they gave their art pieces a splash of color as well as a decorative colorful border
