The grade 7 learners created these colorful funny fish by using the color wheels while exploring how colors mix and match. They learned about primary colors, secondary colors, complimentary colors, neutral colors, and values and hue, as well as warm and cool colors. A lot of mixing was done to achieve a range of colors from light to dark and bright to muted. Learners found that by mixing only red, blue, yellow and white they could achieve an endless array of colors. They also learned that this spectrum of colors exists in our universe always in the order on the color wheel.
One Point Perspective was the challenge in this art project. Learners used the basic vanishing point and converging lines needed to create a one point perspective design. Then added color details on their art project. They rose to the challenge and the results are beautiful.
In one of their art classes, grade seven students opened a bakery. Every student became a “baker†for the session and “baked†a cheerful cake using an ancient technique “Papier-mâchéâ€. After a brief introduction to the technique, the students began their “cookingâ€. Firstly, they created the skeleton of their cakes by forming cardboard bands into the triangular shape of a piece of cake and gluing it onto a base. Secondly, they cut or tore paper into strips and soaked them in white glue until saturated. This is where the preparation phase ends. Thirdly, they paced the saturated pieces one on top of the other onto the skeleton, piece by piece, until it was fully covered. Afterwards, every student did their own design of their piece of cake: some glued “Papier-mâché†candles, previously prepared, on top of their cakes so that they looked like birthday cakes. Others cut a spoon or a fork out of cardboard or soaked tissue paper in white glue then twisted it into a spiral so that it looks like cream and glued it on top of the cake. Finally, the students had to color their cakes; black was strictly forbiddenïŠ. As a result, their beautiful pastry was put on display behind the shop-window of “Aida’s Bakeryâ€. Enjoy your meal!
