Papier-mâché is one of the most challenging and creative project that grade 4 had to make. Learners were inspired by the American artist Wayne Thiebaud, known for his colorful paintings of pastries, pies and cupcakes. They learned how to build an armature for the three dimensional shape by using news papers and glue, than explored the process of the Papier-mâché to their sculpture and created a donut. At the end the paint was used to cover the donut shape and the fun part was the decoration they had to create to make it look like a real donut. Grade 4 succeeded in creating delicious donuts!
Silhouette self portrait was one of the integrated projects for grade 4 this year. After learning in their English session about how to describe themselves and the things that reflects them as well as are important to them, the learners had to draw their silhouette portraits in our art sessions. First they traced the outline of their portrait, than started drawing inside of their silhouette the things that represents or influence them. Some have chosen to represent the activities they like to have, others have imagined what they like to be in the future. After that, they colored their pictures with different medium. The outcome was very creative.
Painting in the style of Wassily Kandinsky, a Russian painter known for his colorful and geometrical shapes, has always been an interesting project to introduce the learners to abstract art. The learners created abstract compositions in the manner of the artist, by exploring the elements of art (line, shape, space, color…) while drawing and painting. Than they have used several shapes and cardboards to apply the relief technique into their abstract paintings. The result was wonderful!
Grade 4 learners explored the collage, which is a technique of art production where the artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms. They also applied the simple perspective with different levels (foreground, middle ground and back ground) to their drawings. First they began sketching, than they have chosen several shapes, forms along with textures of material and glued them on cardboard. Principles of design like overlapping and pattern have also been used in their compositions. At the end, they have painted their projects by using warm/cool colors. The outcome was colorful and remarkable.
