Beloved members of our school’s family, Here we are together back to the place called school. School is the place where we learn and grow; the place where we learn how to grow and, most of all, the place where we take our first steps in the real world. Our world is going through continuous and rapid change. The paradox we face in the real world is the permanent opposition and confrontation between the steady elements that compose the universe and mark its stability, and the ever more changing factors that people implement to move forward with their capacity to transform the world and, accordingly, the whole universe. This transformation starts by knowing more about the world and ourselves, then by taking action. Knowledge is the tool that gives us the power to transform. People are always able to transform themselves and the world around them in a way or another. The question remains whether the transformation we are going through is made for the good and wellbeing of mankind or it is oriented to be a good business venture for a selected few? In today’s world a certain materialistic and solipsistic way of thinking and behaving prevails. It is the law of mutual interest that should be the name of the game, or else, only power has the final say. Of course most of the spiritual, social, moral and cultural values are sacrificed. The sacred ethos of our world is being slowly but strongly wiped away. Creation is being destroyed. This place called earth is no longer an Eden where life blooms out. It has become a place where fertility is conditioned and The Face of God masked and His Word shut down. More than any time ever this year we are called to a prophetic vocation. We are called to put our ears on the chest of Almighty God in order to listen carefully and without interruption to His heartbeats and to understand the power of His love for us. His love is our strength and His call, once heard, is to be announced to His entire creation. His gentle words have the power to renovate our hearts into shelters of caring love. God’s love is not an emotional phenomenon that moves us. It is a unique experience that calls us to become and stay; hearts beholding the flame of justice, Hands laboring for peace, and Voices speaking out loud the word of truth. May God transform us to become living Hearts, Hands, and Voices. Father George Dimas
