During the past three weeks we have found out that we are a part of a “community”. In this community we have neighbors who live next door and community helpers who help us. The teacher explained to us that every community helper has an important job to do and helps us in his own way. We discussed many different jobs and together with our teacher we visited our school library. Guess whom we have met there?! Yes, the librarian! We have learned that the librarian is responsible for the management of the library, such as lending the books and taking proper care of them. We made a tour around the bookshelves. They are filled with a variety of books of different colors, sizes and subjects. We found out that there are many stories for children that we can borrow to read in class. Of course, we have to return them later on. When we grow up, we will be able to borrow the books to read them at home. Moreover, the librarian showed us how to handle a book carefully and introduced us to the library rules. Shhhh! We have to be quiet over there. At the end, the librarian prepared a surprise. She read us a very nice story about community helpers and colors. She gave each of us a small booklet to draw what we want to be in the future. She told us to show the booklet to our parents who would definitely be very proud of us. The librarian showed us a procedure of borrowing the books. It will be fun to read them together in the classroom! KG1 Learners at SMOC
