Folk Dancing at AUB

Posted on: 11-06-2009

… And the crowd went wild as we stepped onto the great Green Field of the American University of Beirut along with other participants coming from the different schools in Lebanon. This yearly event has captured people and encouraged them to take part, I am well aware of that for I was inspired by those who have participated in the past years. We were supposed to perform in this festival last year and the year before, but because of the tragic wars our country has passed through, we were not able to show anyone what we had prepared. But this year was different, it was special! All three sister schools- Saint Mary’s Orthodox College, Beirut Annunciation Orthodox College, and Ecole des Trois Docteurs- were taking part in this festival as one unit. Together we prepared a huge production, though we were acquaintances. We shared the fun and joy and embraced every moment on that field as one whole and not three members. We took advantage of the audience’s enthusiasm and our remarkable talents to blow the judges’ minds away! It was all thanks to Miss Noha Salibi who used her very last breath to fully prepare us and fill our spirits with pride that was obvious to anyone who was watching. We worked extremely hard and had a lot of training sessions and kept on practicing and helping one another with the peculiar moves, it paid off at the end. Strangers came up to us to congratulate us on the performance we have given them. This experience also presented another advantage for us: meeting new people and becoming friends with so many, for even though the festival had an exciting competition going on, but all the participating schools encouraged one another… It was because of our special moves, glowing looks, sport spirits, and delighted minds that we completed this wonderful journey together hoping to continue as one strong team presenting you with more of our schools’ phenomenal work. Special thanks to everyone who was there to support us! Ruba Rizk Grade 10 A Learner
