A World Full of Amazing Creatures

Can you imagine a preschool without drawing, painting or sculpting activities? Of course not, well read about this! At our preschool art is considered vital to our curriculum. This is why this week was a very remarkable one as all of us preschoolers engaged in beautiful art activities which resulted in an art exhibition.
The art exhibition revolved around the theme “Animals”. Mrs. Katie got us real animals to observe and study about, such as: guinea pig, squirrel, kitten, hamster, love birds, frog, gold fish, rabbit, etc... She informed us about the animals’ foods, body movements and body parts. Not only that, but the exhibition also entailed three-dimensional art projects, created by the three levels of the preschool division.
The Nursery classes, created 3D art projects related to “Pets”. Nursery A made a “Bird House” by using different painting techniques on Styrofoam which was later on glued together in such a way to form the “Bird House”; Nursery B also used Styrofoam in order to make a dog house where everyone joined in the fun, as they painted and sponge painted the roof and the sides of the house. As for Nursery C, they made a “Cat Basket” and decorated a box with raffia, and placed inside it colorful crepe paper, making it look like a cushion.
The KG1 made three different art projects; KG1B’s project was about the farm in which the learners modeled animal forms out of clay. KG1A made an aquarium in which learners drew and colored different sea creatures and added sea weeds to make it look real. Finally, KG1C learners designed their pets’ homes and created pet animals.
The KG2 classes also took part in the exhibition. The KG2A and C Learners crumpled and folded pieces of cardboard in order to form their farm animals. As for KG2B, the learners enjoyed sculpting by using clay in order to form turtles and tortoises which they painted at the end. Cutting bird patterns out of cardboards was another art creation which was done by the KG2D learners. They also added color and texture to their birds by gluing feathers and drawing designs on them. The flying birds were finally hung on real tree branches which made it look very original.
This charming experience brought us unique sources of enjoyment, because we were able to put together what we learnt about in English as well as Science and applied it in our wonderful art projects.
