That evening of May 7, the Lebanese Anthem sounded, in the BAC auditorium, announcing a beginning… and an end. As Mohamad, Ahmad, and Atef skillfully played their modernized version of the Anthem, a tide of tears swept through the audience. The attendees looked back upon the young adolescents’ long journey which started that very first day of school, when the precious little ones clung on to their parents’ hands but had their eyes set elsewhere. Parents, officers, and teachers were sadly aware that their children were drifting along the beat of life, towards adulthood, and away from them. As to the learners, their feelings were eloquently expressed in Christopher’s “Memory Lane”, a nostalgic farewell to the familiarity of school and the comfort of childhood, as well as Miral and Hussein’s sentimental reminiscing in “El Helwa Dee”. However, there was little time for melancholy, as Rawan’s performance, followed by Emile and Raja’s “Ring of Fire” set the tone of that evening- a flamboyant one! Rouba and Emile’s voices kindled the emotions, and Wissam, Mohamad, Mazen, and Atef fired up clamorous cheers. From Ahmad, May, Oussama, Adam, and Omar’s music flaring applauses, followed by the fiery performances of Sarah and Aya, to the Oriental Dance and the Dabkeh crew setting the stage ablaze, the spark of our talented team rocked the audience that evening- as Charbel had promised! As the night drew to an end, the performers and all their classmates joined hands, voices, and hearts, to sing and dance to the music of “Ya Batalna”, the closing song of the momentous musical “Kteb Zghir”. “Ya Batalna” beautifully summed up the learners’ long journey at our schools, a thrilling quest of transformation from dependent toddlers to dependable future heroes, who would dare to beat the drums of new beginnings!
