Exploring Life Cycles in Preschool

Posted on: 04-05-2012

Since teaching science concepts in Preschool is based on active learning and inquiry, Nursery, KG1, and KG2 learners had an interesting hands-on experience about the life cycle of a butterfly. This activity was conducted by Mrs. Katie in the Agricultural Area, where the learners had the chance to observe amazing caterpillars and silk wing cocoons. They took their time observing the caterpillars’ size, shape, and movement, and they joyfully watched the little creatures chewing on leaves. The learners were so enthused as Mrs. Katie cut open one of the cocoons and showed them what’s inside. Our learners reflected on this wonderful activity by describing and discussing what they observed. At the end, Mrs. Katie offered them a real cocoon to take home and tell their parents about the great story of the butterfly’s life cycle! Zeina Kobeissi - KG2 Teacher
