Live diversity, an exquisitely optimistic topic; one embedded with color and mirth. It also happened to be this year’s theme for the GC LAU MUN program. A program with youth being their target, ever-striving to help in leading said youths into the world with skills such as listening, presenting and researching with impressive diligence. GC LAU MUN spoke not solely about the conferences and the training sessions; the delegates represented actual governments by being ambassadors of those countries in the world-wide union, the United Nations. They learned how to present said countries’ points of view and grasped the concept of retaliation and rebuttal to those who presented views of contradiction. Four of us represented the Federated States of Micronesia and the other eight represented the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Those names being stated, SMOC is proud to declare that five of our schoolmates, who bordered this international journey with relative excellence, were presented with awards for their charismatic display and their remarkable performance. One however, must surely speak of how this theme-it being so wonderfully sanguine- was embodied in the GC LAU MUN global village. Hundreds of delegates, who had their heads full with position papers and resolutions on a Saturday morning, mind you, had the opportunity to let free their spirits throughout the remainder of the day. Our school represented the Federated States of Micronesia in the global village. A place overwhelmed with glee to say the least, the university was plunged into a blissful parade. Kids running around with costumes of dandelion and sunflower. Tents embroidered with jade, stages decorated with sapphire and signs colorfully written, all ever-presenting life’s diversity. Delicacies and treats from various countries around the world also helped satiate the delegates’ hunger; a hunger for happiness and a rather different side one sees not so often, if I might say. It is integral, in this havoc-wreaking life, for one to let out one’s stress, and the GC LAU MUN did just that, along with teaching one lesson or two. I speak so because we found the global village to be impressively informative and passionately entertaining! With teeth glimmering with glee and festoons flamboyantly showing, one could not but a keep an eye on the horizon, wondering how productive and entrancingly better mankind can become when relief and appropriate merriment both reach their ultimate border; their tipping point.
