Preschoolers had a very exciting time with Ms. Katie at the agricultural area. They were moved at the sight of the real little baby caterpillars eating berry leaves. Not only that, but they also had the chance to feel the silk strands made by the caterpillar. Ms. Katie showed them how to extract those threads from the cocoon by dipping it in hot water. Moreover, they observed a real larva when Ms. Katie cut a cocoon in half and took it out from the pupa. They listened to the story “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and organized by sequence the lifecycle of a butterfly over a flannel board. It was a really rewarding adventure as the learners had a “hands on learning” experience which helped deepen the understanding of the concept that was taught in class through fun activities and stories related to the theme.
