It is with pennies that one makes a dime. Buying a wheelchair is really expensive, as its cost ranges between 800 to 1000 US Dollars. As costly as that is, collecting bottle caps needs the smallest effort, yet can have a profit going beyond its size. We, Grade 10 learners, came up with the idea of collecting bottle caps to trade them with wheelchairs for people who are in need, as part of a project run by Arc-en-ciel, where every 500 bottle caps collected can allow them to buy and donate a wheelchair to someone in need. We presented our proposal to the Head of our Division, who gladly and with no hesitation accepted. Thus, we put up a poster in the hallway to initiate the process of collecting bottle caps for the purpose of buying a wheelchair. By encouraging learners and teachers to participate, we are currently in the process of collecting enough caps to donate as many wheelchairs as possible for those in need. It is our ultimate aim to help as many people as possible. We are aware of the importance of even the smallest bottle cap in bringing about a big change, as the wise words of Confucius echo, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” By Aya Itani, Karen Kaiss, Youssef Saklawi and Mohammad Haidous
